   Have You Heard of MOVEMBER?

I was talking with my wife on a topic for the November article, and she asked me, “Have I heard of Movember?  I had not, so she sent me the link. So, I am sharing this information with you. This site is for men’s health issues.  Movember has funded over 1,200 men’s health projects in more than 20 countries.

Movember is a global charity event held each November to raise funds and awareness for men's health issues, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention. Participants, known as "Mo Bros" and "Mo Sistas," grow moustaches, take on fitness challenges, or host events to spark conversations and collect donations. The funds raised support a wide range of men's health projects worldwide.

How it works
  • Grow a Mo: Men start the month clean-shaven and grow a moustache for the entire month, using it as a conversation starter to raise awareness and funds.
  • Take the Move Challenge: Participants can commit to walking or running 60 miles over the month to support men's health.
  • Host a Mo-ment: People can organize their own events to raise money and awareness.
  • Fundraising: Participants set up a "Mo Space" online to share their progress and collect donations from friends, family, and colleagues.

Focus areas
  • Prostate Cancer: Raising awareness and funding research for this disease.
  • Testicular Cancer: Addressing the most common cancer in young men.
  • Mental Health and Suicide Prevention: Tackling the stigma around men's mental health and providing support, as men die by suicide at a disproportionately high rate.

Impact
  • Movember has funded over 1,200 men's health projects across more than 20 countries.
  • The organization aims to help men live happier, healthier, and longer lives by changing the way they think about and act on their health.

A Pawtucket Council Tradition - Painted Pumpkins

For many years, Pawtucket Council has brought joy to lots of elderly people. The Members of Pawtucket Council get creative by painting pumpkins every year. When the tradition began, they would get dressed up in their Halloween costumes and visit a local Nursing Home. The Members would take turns going into the rooms of the elderly people and deliver a painted pumpkin to each patient. You should have seen the smiles! Some of the people are bedridden, and to have a young child bring them a pumpkin was such a thrill! It makes you feel great to bring such joy to people in need. Since Covid, we have had to discontinue the practice of hand-delivering the pumpkins. We now need to leave it to the Staff at the facility to distribute the pumpkins.

One year – both costumed children and adults – piled into a large elevator. All of a sudden, we heard a noise. The elevator had stopped! The children were afraid. We called for help, and not long after, the Fire Department arrived to rescue us. Unbeknownst to us, we were stuck between 2 floors. We all had to climb out with the assistance of the Firefighters. It was a bit like a Clown Car because the people kept climbing out of the elevator. The Firefighters couldn’t believe how many people we fit into the elevator! What an experience!
